Our Story
In 2007 three artists, Diana LaMorris, Susan Morse and Renee Rowe recognized Pueblo's need for a new, innovative and fresh Art Gallery. The next step was gathering like-minded artists and they soon joined forces with Jill Starkey and other local artists. This core group opened Art on South Main Street in downtown Pueblo. As the word spread, more artists joined the cooperative. Diana, Susan, and Renee were right. Pueblo did need artists representation.
In the summer of 2010, AOSM moved to 216 S. Union and changed the name to Steel City Art Works. We soon became the place to find and buy good, local art. A place to browse, bring friends, relatives and to be during Pueblo's First Friday Art Walks. First Fridays draw up to 300 guests, with new art displayed and artists on hand to greet guest and talk about art. The gallery hosted many events and guest artists. Steel City Art Works became a respected leader in the Pueblo art community. A group of talented makers.
In the fall of 2024, a new and exciting opportunity presented itself.
In January 2025, Steel City Art Works moved down the street to the Historic McLaughlin Building at the corner of Union and B Street. We are honored to be in this lovely old building in this special section of the Historic District. This Grand, historic building is the perfect location for our next chapter. We will be bigger and better than ever.
